The classic “get in their face and keep hurting them” Archetype. Has more survivability than the other Ranged Archetypes (thanks to the SMG Advantage called Wall of Bullets, which provides a useful damage shield), so probably a bit better suited to solo-ing than the other Ranged Archetypes. The Soldier: It’s the Punisher! Or Deadshot! You have lots of guns and you shoot people.This is another glass cannon Archetype, so again stand well back and take them out from long range. The Marksman: Yeah, I know shooting arrows doesn’t seem like much of a super power, but Hawkeye and Green Arrow are cool.You are the very definition of a glass cannon though, so stand well back. Think Human Torch, or Pyro if you are an X-Men fan. Having said that, this game is really all about being the comic book superhero you always dreamed of being, so just pick whatever Archetype appeals to you most. However if you like playing in a team, it’s worth thinking about picking a Tank or Support Archetype for at least one of your characters because teams are frequently short of those. If you intend to mainly play solo, consider starting with a Hybrid or Melee Damage Archetype, since these usually have a good mix of damage and survivability. Support is optimised for skills that buff and heal team mates (but also does have a few decent damage skills as well).
Hybrid is a jack of all trades, a very useful all-rounder. Tank is the opposite - it deals less damage, but has increased damage resistance, and creates a higher Threat to attract enemies to it. The first two should be pretty obvious - in the Damage roles characters do more damage, but they don’t have a lot of defence. Each Archetype is also customisable so you can tweak it to fit your character concept as you level up.Įach Archetype also belongs to a different role.
Each one is based on a classic superhero trope so you can play almost any type of superhero you like.

There are about a dozen free ones and another couple of dozen unlockable ones.
